This past week Grace, Colleen and I traveled to Gujurat to visit Ahmedabad and Diu. Ahmedabad is a pleasant city, with honest rickshaw drivers, friendly citizens, a college area, and Gandhi's ashram. In Ahmedabad we visited Gandhi's ashram, where he lived and worked for around 15 years. It was absolutely amazing to be in that space and learn the history and struggle for independence. Diu is an island off the coast of Gujurat on the Arabian Sea (it used to be Portugese territory). Diu is beautiful, not very touristy at all, and all of the beaches are pretty much deserted, so we had a fabulous time! We also got to celebrate Navratri in both Diu and Ahmedabad. Navratri is 9 days worshipping 9 goddesses and in Gujurat, there are dances each of the nights to celebrate. We went to Navratri at a small temple with about 30 people in Diu and at CEPT University in Ahmedabad with hundreds of students, faculty and alumni.
